The History

In 2001, former President George H.W. Bush, the forty-first President of the United States, asked Robert A. Ingram, then the CEO of Glaxo Wellcome, to convene and chair the CEO Roundtable on Cancer in support of an historic initiative known as C-Change. C-Change (formerly called the National Dialogue on Cancer), is a national forum that brings together our nation’s key cancer leaders from government, business, academia and nonprofit sectors, all of whom share a common vision: eliminating cancer.

Specifically, President Bush asked Bob Ingram to form a separate organization, comprised of action-oriented chief executives, and challenged them to “do something more about cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment within your own family as well as within your corporate family.”

Today, the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, formed in 2001 and chartered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2005, remains committed to fulfilling the challenge given by the forty-first President of the United States to be “bold and venturesome” in considering the health of their employees and in making progress in the war against cancer. Since its beginnings, the CEO Roundtable answered the President’s call to action with the creation of two Task Forces, whose efforts are described under The Task Forces At-a-Glance
