The Charles A. Sanders Life Sciences Award – “The Charlie” – is an annual award that recognizes “bold and venturesome” innovation and collaboration in clinical oncology research. The Charlie is named in honor of Charles A. Sanders, MD, former Chairman of Glaxo, and Chairman of the Foundation of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Sanders has been the force behind many innovative life-lengthening and life-saving products. Indeed, he has helped to shape health education and medical research in the United States from his days as chief executive of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University. A renowned scientist, educator, physician, administrator and philanthropist, Dr. Sanders represents the tenets of leadership, innovation and collaboration and patient-centric devotion that the Life Sciences Consortium espouses and seeks to catalyze.
